One thing that I didn’t realise when I transitioned from working in an office to working from home was how much I would come to rely on certain products and services (you can see my full list of recommended online marketing and SEO websites/tools here). In an office, your infrastructure is built in – your company likely provides your computer and other basic supplies. However, when you begin working from home you are responsible for everything from pens and paper to your mobile phone and workstation.
In my day-to-day life I balance the needs of several business ventures in addition to my personal interests, hobbies, and relationships. To meet the needs of these various responsibilities, there are several things that I’ve come to rely on:
1. Daily To-Do Pad
I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about writing out my to-do list that focuses my goals and increases my productivity. This affordable to-do pad is easy-to-use, well organised, and provides enough pages for three months of regular workweeks. The manufacturing company, Mass Market Paperbacks, produces a number of similar items that can help organise everything from your grocery list to meeting agendas. I’m all about organisation – take the extra time to plan at the start and you’ll reap the rewards in the end!
2. Dry-Erase Calendar
Along the same line as my previous suggestion, I have this calendar in my home office. Any network marketing product that can help you keep your eye on long-term goals is a great thing to have; this calendar is the perfect size for me to see my appointments from across the room, but it’s not so huge that it dominates the wall.
3. Bose Quiet Comfort Headphones
As I’ve covered in previous posts, working from home means that your office can be everywhere from the local coffee shop to the beach to the cabin of a long-haul flight. While I love the freedom of being able to work anywhere in the world, it does involve a lack of control over my office environment. My workday occasionally involves fighting against loud people and ambient noise, which is why I don’t travel without noise-cancelling headphones. These headphones offer excellent sound and do a great job of tuning out the outside world!
4. Bluetooth Keyboard
To be able to work from any corner of the globe, you must have a collection of items that are easy to carry around with you at all times. Unfortunately, a laptop computer can be difficult to bring to some of my favorite workplaces. This excellent Bluetooth keyboard pairs with my iPad and allows me to work anywhere with a reliable WiFi signal. I love how versatile this keyboard is; it functions with multiple devices, has a convenient slot for attaching my iPad, and is light enough that it doesn’t add much weight at all to my bag. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes working on a mobile device instead of a laptop or PC.
5. Audible Subscription
I strongly believe that one of the best tools for network marketing growth is a good book. However, the frenetic lifestyle of a network marketing entrepreneur often leaves little time for sitting down and reading. My monthly subscription to Audible gives me access to thousands of audiobooks that I can listen to while commuting, between appointments, or in the morning when I’m getting ready for my day. If you hadn’t guessed already, I love trying to make my days as efficient as possible; a good audiobook means that I’m never wasting a single minute even if I’m not actively working.
6. Pomodoro Timer
If you’re not familiar with the Pomodoro Technique for productivity, I highly recommend checking it out; the basic premise is that by dividing your day into 25-minute periods you can achieve short bursts of productivity without burning out midway through the day. This simple kitchen timer is perfect for using the Pomodoro Technique, and it can be slipped into your bag and taken with you to wherever your office may be. I always make sure to use my Pomodoro Timer on days that involve a lot of organisational work: answering emails, scheduling appointments, keeping track of finances. The 25-minute period is perfect for maintaining focus and a steady stream of productivity.
7. Contigo Stainless Steel Travel Mug
Between a lifelong passion for high-quality coffee and the occasional early demands of overseeing multiple companies, I’m a man that needs a serious mug for my morning brew. I love this mug because it’s completely spill-proof; when I’m hustling between client meetings, seminars, and the beach, the last thing that I need is a full mug of coffee spilled all over my car! It keeps my iced coffee cold and my hot coffee warm – what more could you want?
You can’t work all the time! If you’re a follower of my Twitter or Instagram accounts, you know that I couldn’t survive without my hammock. A quick outdoor nap is the perfect way to recharge during a stressful day. Running your own business can be a thrilling experience, but it’s also one of the most stressful career paths you can choose. If a hammock isn’t the perfect relaxation spot for you, work towards finding something else that will offer an area for escape. It will pay huge dividends in your work towards a long, successful career.
